Who we are

Geothermal Impact Alliance is governed by a board of directors who guide the organization and its partnerships to advance the utility-scale use of geothermal energy to heat and cool buildings. Our board members provide vision and expertise that focuses on key elements for the next generation of commercialization and utility-scale implementation of geothermal technologies for heating and cooling buildings.

Diego caRroll

Diego Carroll is a founding board member and president of Geothermal Impact Alliance (GIA) and a Civil Engineer with 25 years’ experience specializing in early stages of project development for public infrastructure and real estate. For the past five years, Diego has led a multidisciplinary team of geothermal scientists, real estate developers, and investors to explore implementation of a utility-scale geothermal system for various Utah development projects, including the redevelopment site of the ex-state prison in Draper, Utah. Diego was the project manager and financial feasibility lead for The Point Geothermal Feasibility Study recently completed for the Utah Office of Energy Development. Diego has a proven ability to communicate effectively with clients to understand their needs and to guide technical teams. Diego holds a BS and MS in Civil Engineering and MBA with a finance/strategy emphasis, all from Brigham Young University.

Dan hemmert

Dan Hemmert is a founding board member of Geothermal Impact Alliance (GIA) and a consultant specializing in government affairs. His clients include cities, counties, real estate developers, and various other commercial interests. He specializes in creative solutions with public-private partnerships and funding for infrastructure. Dan has successfully secured funding from the state of Utah, created tax increment project areas, and assisted in the creation of public infrastructure districts who in turn have issued bonding for major infrastructure projects, including power projects. Prior to consulting, Dan served as a member of Utah Governor Cox’s cabinet and the Executive Director of GOEO and sat on the boards of the Point of the Mountain State Land Authority and the Utah Inland Port Authority. Dan has a BA in economics, a master’s degree in business administration, and a law degree, all from Brigham Young University.

Chad Pollard is a founding board member of Geothermal Impact Alliance (GIA) and a seasoned infrastructure professional with over 25 years of experience managing large-scale construction projects. As a licensed Structural Engineer, Chad brings technical expertise and operational leadership to complex infrastructure and real estate development initiatives. For the past five years, he has worked with the team to analyze and develop community-scale ambient temperature geothermal projects for various master development projects in Utah. His deep understanding of Public-Private Partnerships (P3), construction management, and quality assurance, combined with his experience in integrating sustainable energy systems, positions him to provide key insights for the constructibility and construction of utility-scale geothermal infrastructure systems. Chad has a BS in Civil Engineering from Brigham Young University
